Build the practical skills and technical knowledge required for entry-level work installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing residential and commercial HVACR systems.
What you will do:
Train for the systems that keep homes and businesses running. The HVACR program prepares students for entry-level employment in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration trade. Students receive hands-on training in residential and commercial heating systems, refrigeration, air conditioning, and hydronic systems, with an emphasis on installation, maintenance, and repair.
Training also covers load calculations, psychrometrics, sheet metal fabrication, ductwork installation, motor controls, programmable logic controllers, chiller systems, and advanced troubleshooting diagnostics. Students develop additional skills in project management, estimating, blueprint reading, customer service, safety, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

What are the admission requirements for the HVACR program?
A prospective student seeking admission must:
- Be a high school graduate or possess a GED diploma or recognized equivalency certificate.
- Complete an application and pay a one-time $50 application fee and a one-time $100 registration fee.
- Request that an official high school transcript be sent directly to the Admissions Department.
- Successfully complete the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Examination with a minimum score of 17.
- Participate in an admissions interview scheduled by the Admissions Department.
- Sign an Enrollment Agreement.
- Sign the Student Acknowledgement for Online Education.
- Complete the “Are You Ready for Online Education?” assessment.
- Complete the Online Basic Computer Literacy Assessment with a minimum passing score of 70%.
How long is the program?
The HVACR program is 16 months long and consists of four semesters, 1,500 hours, and 66 credits. Graduates earn an Associate in Specialized Technology degree.
When does the program begin?
The program enrolls every February, June, and October. The first scheduled start is October 1, 2026.
Is the HVACR program hybrid?
Yes. Applied general education courses are offered in a hybrid format, consisting of 2.5 hours online and 2.5 hours on the ground. Technical HVACR courses are identified in the curriculum as residential delivery.
What schedule does the program follow?
Classes are scheduled on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. In general, students attend four days per week, for a total of approximately 20 to 30 hours per week, and no more than 10 hours per day.
The on-ground portion of each hybrid general education course is scheduled as one 2.5-hour block between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
